How This Scam Works

Bait-and-switch pricing uses an attractive initial offer to get you into a session, then exploits the emotional momentum of the reading to extract more money than you planned to spend. The reader may advertise a rate of one dollar per minute but then work very slowly, pad the reading with unnecessary pauses, or claim that the really important information is just around the corner to keep you on the line. Some extend sessions past the agreed time without asking and charge for the extra minutes. Others start with the low-cost session type but claim midway through that your situation requires an upgrade to a more expensive reading format. The free reading variant works similarly: the free session is deliberately unsatisfying, ending on a cliffhanger that makes you feel compelled to purchase a paid follow-up. In all cases, the initial price was never the real price — it was a hook.

Warning Signs

• The advertised rate is dramatically lower than comparable services on the same platform
• The reader works slowly, pauses frequently, or seems to be stalling for time during the session
• You are told mid-session that your situation requires an upgrade to a different, more expensive service tier
• The free reading ends abruptly with a claim that crucial information is available only in a paid session
• You are charged for more time than you authorized or agreed to
• The final bill is significantly higher than what you expected based on the advertised rate

What Legitimate Practice Looks Like

Transparent psychic platforms display per-minute rates clearly and allow you to set spending limits before the session begins. Legitimate readers work within the time frame you have specified and warn you when time is running low rather than running the clock. They do not introduce new pricing tiers mid-session or hold important information hostage behind higher rates. If a platform offers a free introductory session, the session should provide genuine value rather than serving as an infomercial for paid services.

What to Do

Set a firm budget and time limit before every psychic session and communicate it clearly. On platforms that allow it, set a spending cap that cannot be exceeded. Time the session yourself rather than relying on the reader to track time. If a reader tells you mid-session that an upgrade is needed, decline and end the session as planned. Compare the advertised rate to the average rate on the platform — dramatically lower rates are often bait.
