Some platforms use free trial periods that auto-convert to paid subscriptions, relying on the fact that many people forget to cancel before the trial expires. The amounts may be small enough to escape notice on bank statements for months. Others charge escalating amounts, starting low and increasing over time.

Legitimate platforms make their pricing structure obvious and do not rely on hidden charges or difficult cancellation processes to generate revenue.
